We started this project with a goal; in reality, there was some advanced assignment that was detailed. However, at the end of the day, excluding all the fancy words and what not, it came down as being perceived in one sentence; “Make a scale model of a real thing”.
How would I tackle this? Well, what's something i spend a lot of time on? That's right! My computer! I spend a significant amount of time on my computer; Playing games and schoolwork. So I had the idea; let's scale something on my computer screen to its real life counterpart. I decided to find a picture of a real topic matching a screenshot I took.
From here, i divulged into mathematics. I had two images; one being the real life picture, and one being the screenshot. Via various photo editing, I decided to make a scale screen, with the same dimensions as my real screen. I inserted the screenshot inside the screen to fit like a glove.
From here, I worked on the hard part; finding the scale between the two. I have the real life image, but I wasn’t exactly sure how much bigger it was, and thus didn’t know how much I would need to scale to. I decided to go digging through my personal library until I found a description of the tank in my screenshot. Using its measurements, I was able to find out how much bigger the real life version was to my computer one.
From here, I scaled and had a project almost complete. I decided to make it all in one nice picture and I was done.
Benchmark 1 - Well, I had an idea and I decided to go on it. I just needed a basic theory or concept. I wrote up a quick summary of what I had in mind, put it in a google document, and shared it with my teacher. This allowed me to pass through Benchmark 1.

This may look confusing. It likely is. But this was the foundation of math for everything. From here, I compiled all of my data from measurements I had made on my digital screen and my book. The list of dimensions is the table in Russian on the right, and the compilation of the total data was on the top; my computer screen dimensions and the computer tank dimensions. On the right, I had the measurements of the real deal.
I went on to grab my two sources and do some math. Dividing 3140 by 523 and 2375 by 395, I got one common scale factor/proportion; six. The real life version was 600% larger than the digital version. Benchmark number two was complete.
Benchmark 3-
Benchmark three was the final touches of the project and finishing. I divulged back into photo editing, and aligned the two until the real life version was 600% larger. I aligned the two, put them on a new blank document, and was done.
Well, not quite. I’m going to be honest, I didn’t stop there. I decided to then scale multiple other objects to the computer screen just to show how big it really was. I was worried that those viewing would just think the computer screen was small. I decided to smash this notion with showing how huge the computer screen was to other utilities, such as an iPhone, a Pencil, a piece of paper, etc. When all was said and done, I truly had a final product I was happy with.

In reflection, what can I say? I’m proud of my work. However, one thing plagued me throughout the project; I was always worried that I may have forgotten something important. I had all the data; this was no problem. Everything was complete as well. I was simply worried I had forgotten to turn something in.
This problem lasted with me to the end of the project. I had no idea what I was missing and what I wasn’t, and decided to check in with my teacher to confirm or deny whether or not I was missing anything. I am awaiting a response; however, the end product is still complete and ready for it to be presented to the world.
